“The secret of getting ahead is getting started.”
Halloween has just passed, and November is upon us — across Thailand, Semester 2 has begun, bringing with it fresh beginnings for both students and teachers. A new term inspires us to communicate ideas more effectively, support our students’ learning needs, and unlock greater potential in ourselves and others.
New Term, Fresh Energy, and Renewed Optimism

As Semester 1 came to a close, I, like many teachers, was grateful for a well-deserved break. I traveled around Thailand, discovered new places, and reconnected with family. These moments of rest were essential — teaching is a high-energy vocation, and self-care is the fuel that keeps us going.
I also spent time reflecting on the first semester — the highs and lows, what worked and what didn’t — and set clear goals for the months ahead. Having a vision helps me stay focused, motivated, and ready to embrace the challenges of teaching in Thailand once again.
Preparation, Flexibility, and Finding Balance

Before classes resumed at Buriram Pitthayakhom (BP) School, I reviewed the curriculum for Term 2 and brainstormed creative group projects to engage students. Collaboration often brings out the best in them, revealing hidden strengths that may not always emerge in day-to-day lessons.
Teaching in Thailand has taught me that flexibility is key. Schedules and class times can change at a moment’s notice — but rather than stress, I’ve learned to stay open and positive. When you approach each day with optimism, things tend to work out just fine.
I also reorganized my workspace — where most of my grading, planning, and late-night thinking take place — and reminded myself of the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between work and rest. Whether it’s watching Netflix, reading, or hitting the gym, those quiet moments recharge the energy needed for the classroom.
A City Alive: Buriram’s MotoGP and the Joy of Local Life

Just before Term 2 began, Buriram hosted the Thai MotoGP, an annual event that transforms the city into a festival of excitement. Thousands of visitors filled hotels, restaurants, and bars — giving a substantial boost to the local economy and bringing a sense of pride to the community.
It was the perfect kickoff to a new term. Even those who aren’t racing fans couldn’t help but feel the energy. The city was alive, smiling, and united — a reflection of the same community spirit that makes Buriram Pitthayakhom (BP) School such a fulfilling place to teach.
In some years, the race is held earlier in March, marking one of the first events of the season — yet another exciting milestone for Buriram and all who call it home.
Looking Ahead: Festivals, Camps, and Classroom Goals

Semester 2 is full of activities that keep both students and teachers inspired. This month, we’ll celebrate Loy Krathong, where our school parades through the city before floating beautifully decorated baskets at the local moat — a day filled with color, tradition, and community.
There are times during the second term when we attend an English Camp as part of our BFITS Program. These trips are always memorable — a perfect blend of learning, laughter, and exploration that takes place outside the classroom. Add to that the excitement of Christmas, New Year celebrations, and inter-school competitions, and it’s easy to see why this term feels both busy and rewarding.
Back in class, I’ve set new goals: encouraging every student to give just that extra 10% effort, embracing technology more in my lessons, and continuing to grow as both a teacher and a person. Above all, I aim to inspire self-belief and confidence — helping students see that what they learn truly belongs to them forever.
A Message of Welcome, Gratitude, and Growth

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”
As the new term begins, some teachers may have changed schools or joined new teams. To those joining BFITS Thailand, welcome! Every new face brings fresh ideas and energy. And to those continuing the journey — thank you for your dedication and passion. I also want to acknowledge Mr. James Tovey’s monthly webinars, which have been a great source of teaching insight and inspiration for all of us.
Here at Buriram Pitthayakhom (BP) School, there’s a strong sense of belonging — a shared spirit that motivates us to do our best each day. Personally, I value the structure and purpose that school life brings. The connections between teachers, students, and the community remind me why I love this profession.
To new and returning teachers alike — welcome to another semester of growth, laughter, and learning. Together, we make teaching in Thailand more than a job — it’s an experience filled with culture, community, and endless possibilities.
Happy teaching, everyone — and here’s to a fantastic Term 2!
